Maker of the Month: Vincent Mattei

Long Island, New York native metal stamper and jewelry maker Vincent Mattei is our Maker of the Month for April of 2023. Jewelry making for him started out as a hobby, but has grown to be so much more as he's established his business Veeaien Designs LLC. Over 6 years ago, Vincent was walking through the aisles of his local craft store and found himself in the jewelry making section where he found his first metal stamping tools. From the moment he stamped his first letter, he was hooked.

Vincent says, "metal stamping is much better than engraving, in my opinion, because by metal stamping a jewelry piece, every single piece you make is unique, and allows your creativity to flow freely, the great thing about metal stamping is you have full creative control as you work through a piece, and you can add more until it turns out exactly as you envisioned."

Vincent started out his metal stamping and jewelry making journey stamping aluminum blanks and making keychains, then expanded his offering to rings, bracelets, and charm necklaces. He even has worked a little bit with leather, and thanks to Beaducation tutorials started creating ornaments and ring dishes from our free online jewelry making classes. One of his favorite projects he made, was the dreamcatcher suncatcher that he used our tutorial and jewelry supplies to make.

When asked what inspired his maker journey, Vincent said that he takes inspiration for his pieces from the natural environment, astronomy, and human connection. His most popular pieces have been his matching ring sets which have been great for couples and best friends as promise rings, and his charm necklaces that uses the mystical metal designs stamps from Beaducation.com. He started out selling his jewelry pieces on Etsy, but as he became more established and started working with more premium materials that Beaducation.com supplied him with, he built his own website at veeaiendesigns.com. We asked him what the meaning of his brand name is, and he let us know that it's the phonetic spelling of his nickname, Vin, so his brand is pronounced V.I.N. Designs.

In the coming years, Vincent told us that his first purchase would be a tumbler, as he'd love to tumble his pieces, and he also let us know that when he gets his own studio space, he wants to start with jewelry soldering and silversmithing. He says, "Beaducation offers such an extensive multi part jewelry soldering tutorial series, and it's going to make it so easy for me to learn the new skill from start to finish." He also mentioned that he'd like to learn to wire weave if he has additional free time, but right now it's not a priority.

When asked how Beaducation supports his jewelry making journey, Vincent said, "I know I can find anything and everything I need for my jewelry making projects from Beaducation.com, they often have brand new metal design stamps, and are always on trend to make sure that my products are always on trend. It's almost like Beaducation is always right before the trend. Beaducation stamps are my favorite because they're affordable, easy to stamp, and almost never rust for me."
