I have really fallen in love with Kate's tutorials!! I think she is a GREAT instructor and really helps so things like this do not seem like projects anyone can't accomplish! She just has a way of making you feel like you are just like her....and that she even makes mistakes (which brings an amazing human element into her lessons)! I can't wait to fine even more of her instructions!!

What a terrific video!! Kate is a wonderful instructor and I feel like I had a private lesson. I had been stuck before this video, having problems with determining the right height for a bezel, bezels melting, palliards of solder flying halfway across the room, you name it, but now I feel much more confident to be more productive in my studio.

I have taken metal smith classes for YEARS. I wanted take a refresher on soldering as I am waiting for my studio to be built. This tutorial of Kate's is the BEST I have seen yet! Ten stars Kate! Love, love, LOVE you! Very informative. I have struggled with measuring my bezels ever since trying to set stones. Kate's trick is the best yet. I cannot wait to try it. The closest trick I have seen to this was with stick it notes, but from what I can tell, Kate's would defiantly work better!!
Kate walks through each step of everything she teaches clearly and explains in detail. I will be watching only from Kate from now on.

This is a lovely tutorial. My friend who is just getting started has spoken highly of the free videos this site offers so I wanted to take a look.

One thing surprised me though - I've never set a cabochon before completely finishing the setting. I do all my sanding & polishing BEFORE I set the stone. The risk of scratching a softer stone is too great otherwise. Also I prefer to use a bezel rocker or pusher first, then final with a steel or agate burnisher, this way it isn't necessary to thin the bezel.

On a general side note, it would be nice if this site offered videos of common problems that beginners run into like ripples in a bezel, gaps between the bezel & the back plate, and opening the bezel seam when soldering on to the back plate.

Thank you very much for these quality videos and the time that goes into producing them!

Excellent tutorial! Wonderfully paced which is an art onto itself. Spoken clearly. Thank you. It was a fabulous review for me as I have not set stones or made jewelry in over three years.
