Introduction to Soldering
This class teaches everything that you need to know to get started with Basic Soldering. Kate shares many tips and tricks in this class including set-up and safety, how to use paste solder to solder jump rings, make chain and create and fabricate an embellished bead. This class breaks down the complicated steps to soldering and makes it easy for the beginning metalsmith to get started at home!

Micro Torch - $39.00 - and fuel

Large Diamond Files, Set of 5 - $32.75 - or any other semi-fine file

Metal surface to cover table while soldering.

Salon Board File or fine grit sandpaper.

Steel Wire Brush - $8.50 - or fine and medium Steel Wool

3/8” Dowel or similar size. This tool determines the size of your chain links. You can size up or down if you wish.

A Note About Materials: This project can be made with a variety of different sizes of blanks and gauges of wire. The soldering techniques are the same and not limited to the specific materials listed. You may use either copper or sterling silver.

Copper 24 gauge Sheet Metal, 3" x 3" piece - $1.90 - If you prefer to cut your own discs. Sterling silver may be substituted.

Copper Round, Disc, Circle, 19mm (.75"), 24g, Pack of 5 - $3.52 - 2 pieces. Sterling silver may be substituted.

Copper Round, Disc, Circle, 12.7mm (.50"), 24g, Pack of 5 - $3.04 - 2 pieces. Sterling silver may be substituted.

8-4mm Bicone Crystals or similar small beads

4 4-5mm Freshwater Pearls or similar-sized beads

Sterling Silver 4mm I.D. 18 Gauge Jump Rings, 1/4 ozt - $17.84 - or any single jump ring to attach the clasp

Hey omg love the videos you all are amazing but I was wondering where might I look for the acrylic or wooden dowels like the one used for the jump rings in this intro

You should be able to find dowel rods at a craft store or hardware store. Or, you can always use a similar size item like a marker/pen. A Sharpie marker is pretty close :)
